FBG Attends D.J.’s Heroes Award Luncheon

The 21st annual D.J.’s Hero Awards Luncheon honors 11 high school seniors who have overcome adversity and made an impact on their school and community. Each hero receives a $10,000 scholarship named for D.J. Sokol, son of Omaha natives David and Peggy Sokol.

Attending the event were Omaha Public Power District’s Don Blair and Jim Fitzsimmons along with FBG staff: Omaha Operations Director Hector Peralta, VP Strategic Accounts Andy Petersen, Managed Services Director Steve Simmonds, VP Finance Tina Heisterkamp, Key Accounts Manager Drew Petersen, IT Director Brian Galloway, VP Jim Simmonds and Sales Director Diane Pesek.

D.J. battled cancer until his death at age 18, showing courage in his struggle and a deep concern for others. This year’s featured speakers were Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy of “The Blind Side” fame. FBG’s VP of Strategic Accounts, Andy Petersen, said of the event, “It was a truly moving and motivating experience. Both the stories that were told about the scholarship winners and the humble story of the Tuohy’s had an impact on us. We were very proud to represent FBG at this event and are proud to be supporting these very deserving students.”
