Way back in 1955, a couple of Nebraska natives started a small company called FloorBrite. In 1961 another company that specialized in rental dust mops acquired the firm. Our Chairman of the Board Wayne Simmonds was a key employee at that company.
Wayne purchased FloorBrite in 1968 with plans to transform the small firm with annual revenues of $750,000 into a strong regional provider. To grow his new company, Wayne adopted a novel strategy: to share ownership with other key personnel and branch out to other cities.
In 1978, the company purchased Guardsman Security Service and changed its name from FloorBrite to FBG (for FloorBrite Guardsman). The guard service was sold in 1988 in order to focus on the company’s core cleaning and facility maintenance competencies. Rapid growth allowed the janitorial business to expand into Iowa, which in turn paved the future for growth to Florida, Minnesota, Alabama, Mississippi and Pennsylvania.
In 1994, FBG joined forces with a partner company to provide full-service janitorial and maintenance management for 3,000 facilities in 14 states. Since that time, FBG’s national account division has grown steadily to serve customers in a wide range of industries in 29 states. Today, FBG Service Corporation employs more than 1,700 people and manages hundreds of subcontractors across the country.
